Why Choose the 2024 Volvo XC90 over the Lexus TX?

The Volvo XC90 has been around for a few years in its current form already but despite the arrival of many new competitors, the 2024 XC90 still has a lot to offer buyers in the mid-size three-row SUVs. Here is how it compares with the new 2024 Lexus TX:

More power and a plug-in version

 The 2024 Volvo XC90 continues to feature very advanced powertrains that provide more power and better fuel economy than the ones offered in the new Lexus TX. Indeed, the XC90 comes with a choice of two powertrains in 2024, starting with a 2.0L turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine that features a mild-hybrid setup. This combination results in an output of 295 horsepower and an average fuel consumption of only 9.8 L/100 km. For comparison, the 2024 Lexus TX also comes with two powertrains, but its standard non-electrified turbocharged engine can only deliver 275 horsepower and a fuel consumption of 10.3 L/100 km.

The available plug-in hybrid version of the 2024 Volvo XC90 is another major advantage of this model over the Lexus TX, which only offers a traditional hybrid powertrain. The XC90 Recharge benefits from a generous 455 horsepower output and up to 53 kilometres of all-electric driving on a full charge. For its part, the Lexus TX hybrid has only 366 horsepower on tap and it is not capable of driving in electric mode for any significant distance.

The Google Built-in system

The 2024 Volvo XC90 benefits from the latest version of the Google Built-in infotainment system that was introduced to the Volvo lineup a couple of years ago. While the Lexus can also boast a modern infotainment system, it doesn’t have the level of connectivity and integration to the Google ecosystem that is possible with the Google built-in system. Indeed, the XC90 can be used to control a host of connected devices via the driver’s voice as part of the Google Assistant system. In addition, apps can be added at the driver’s will by using the Google Play Store, as you would do with your phone. Another way in which the Google built-in system makes itself very useful by having a native integration of Google Maps.

An elegant and timeless design

Despite having been introduced all the way back in 2015, the 2024 Volvo XC90 is still one of the most handsome and elegant models on the market thanks to its restrained exterior styling that is both understated and distinctly Scandinavian. The same can be said for the interior of the XC90, which showcases the precepts of minimalist design by integrating most controls within the center screen and leaving only the most important functions to be controlled via physical buttons. In the case of the Lexus TX, the exterior design is more aggressive and angular. While aesthetics are subjective, we believe that the Lexus TX might not stand the test of time as well as the XC90 in terms of appearance.
