2022 Volvo XC60 vs. 2022 Audi Q5: More Power and Technology in the XC60

The Volvo XC60 doesn’t compromise. It offers the best in terms of comfort and technologies in a stylish package that encompasses everything Volvo stands for in terms of safety and efficiency. This year, the XC60 gets new engines that incorporate mild hybrid technologies to better serve you and your family on the road.

Here, we compare the 2022 Volvo XC60 with the 2022 Audi Q5.

Refined power and efficiency under the hood of the Volvo XC60

The XC60 keeps getting better with new and improved technologies under the hood. The base engine is the B5 unit that uses a state of the art four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged engine connected to a 48-volt hybrid system. This engine outputs 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft and has excellent fuel efficiency, with a combined city/highway rating of only 9.4 L/100 km.

The B6 engine is also an option with the XC60. It uses the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder as the B5, but a supercharger is added on top. This enables the B6 to output 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The fuel efficiency is also impressive, with a 9.9 L/100 km combined rating.

At the top of the lineup, the plug-in T8 powertrain powers both Recharge and Polestar Engineered models. This unit uses the B6 engine and connects it to a set of electric motors that produce a combined output of 400 horsepower in the Recharge model. For more performance, the Polestar Engineered model modifies this powertrain to get 415 horsepower out of it.

In comparison, the Audi Q5’s base engine deploys 261 horsepower, but doesn’t offer mild hybrid technology. The “sportier” SQ5, which outputs 349 horsepower, is less powerful than the T8-Powered XC60’s.

The Q5 also has a plug-in hybrid, but not only does it output less power than the XC60 Recharge, it offers less range with only 37 kilometres compared to 50 kilometres.

The XC60 is filled with innovative technologies

Volvo now delivers enhanced interior technologies. For example, the XC60’s Sensus infotainment system has recently been replaced by an even more intuitive Android-based interface that integrates a voice assistant, unlimited personalization options, and best-in-class navigation via Google Maps and plenty of in-car apps.

Upgrades have also been made to the radar, camera, and driver-assistance system sensors to keep the XC60 ahead of the Q5 and other rivals in terms of tech.
